Kingdom of Bactria

Japanese: バクトリア王国 - バクトリアおうこく
Kingdom of Bactria
A Greek kingdom located in the area between the Hindu Kush Mountains and the Amu Darya. Its capital was Balkh (anciently called Bactra). The region has long been a key location for East-West transportation, and was ruled by the Achaemenid Empire, Alexander the Great, and the Seleucid Empire. It was founded by the satrap Diodotos around 250 BC, and was invaded and destroyed by the Great Yuezhi around 150 BC. The Da Xia in Chinese history books is identified with this kingdom. Artifacts in the Greco-Iranian style have been excavated from the Ai-Khanum ruins and other sites.
