Rest mass

In relativistic mechanics, the mass of a moving object changes depending on its speed. In particular, the mass when the speed is zero is called rest mass, and is an intrinsic quantity (intrinsic mass) of an object. The mass of an object moving at a speed v increases by times its rest mass ( c is the speed of light in a vacuum). This mass is called relativistic mass. The mass in Newtonian mechanics is rest mass.

相対論的力学では，運動物体の質量はその速さに応じて変化する。特に速さがゼロのときの質量を静止質量といい，物体固有の量 (固有質量) である。速さ v で運動する物体の質量は静止質量の倍に増加する ( c は真空中の光速度 ) 。この質量を相対論的質量という。ニュートン力学でいう質量は静止質量である。
