These machines twist threads or wires together to make ropes, cables, and other types of rope; there are machines for textiles and machines for wire, but the principles are roughly the same. Below are the various textile machines in order of process. A strander is a machine that twists many threads together to make strands that form the building blocks of rope, and these are then twisted together in a closer to make rope. A thread machine makes thin rope in one process while making strands. The principle diagram of a typical closer is shown in Figure 1, where the strands are set on a strand flyer attached to a disk or the like, and the disk is rotated to apply the final twist. 糸あるいは針金を撚(よ)り合わせてロープやケーブルなどの綱を作る機械で,繊維用と針金(ワイヤ)用とがあるが,原理はほぼ同じである。次に繊維用の各種機械を工程順に示す。ストランダーは多数の糸を撚り合わせてロープの構成単位となるストランドを作る機械で,これをクローサーで撚り合わせて綱を作る。スレッドマシンはストランドを作りながら1工程で細い綱を作る。普通のクローサーの原理図を図1に示したが,円板などに取り付けられたストランドフライヤーにストランドをセットし,円板を回転して上撚(じようねん)をかける。
