It is an RNA virus of the Myxovirus genus, 80-120 mμ in length, and is mostly spherical, but some are linear. It is broadly divided into three types, A, B, and C, with type A being further divided into subtypes _A0 , _A1 , and _A2 , and type B being divided into subtypes _B1 , _B1a , _B1b , and _B2 , but the degree of mutation is greater for type A.
