A general term for slender land snails of the Clausilia family. There are about 150 species in Japan, distributed from southern Hokkaido to Okinawa, where they live under fallen leaves in mountains and fields or on rotting wood. The shell is usually spindle-shaped but can also be club-shaped. In general, it is named after the shape that resembles the old "Natama Megisuru". There are many coils, ranging from 6 to 14 stories, and all Japanese species are left-handed. The opening of the shell is oval with thickened edges in adult shells, with 1 to 3 wrinkles inside the opening, and wrinkles of various lengths inside the last coil.
