Yamoto [town] - Yamoto
A former town in Monou County in central eastern Miyagi Prefecture. The Senseki Line runs through the town. Vegetables and pears are grown on several rows of beach ridges along the coast and shipped to Sendai and Ishinomaki. Rice farming is also thriving here. Formerly a naval air base, the town is currently home to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The Kitakami Canal runs along the coast. In April 2005, the town merged with Naruse Town in Monou County to become Higashimatsushima City. Area 49.81 km2 . Population 31,933 (2003).
