?-1645 The third king of the Mataram Islamic Kingdom of Java, Indonesia. Reigned 1613-45. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Senapati and his father Panembahan Kerapiak, he expanded the kingdom, conquering Tuban on the north coast and Madura Island, and then moved the capital from Kota Gede to Prered in the southeast. As he advanced westward, he came into conflict with the Dutch East India Company, which had established a base in Batavia (now Jakarta), and besieged Batavia Castle twice, in 1628 and 1629, but failed both times.
