Iwakidaira - Iwakidaira

Japanese:
Iwakidaira - Iwakidaira
Also written as Iwakidaira. A castle town in Iwaki District, Mutsu Province (Hamadori, Fukushima Prefecture). Built and developed on the alluvial land of the Natsui River basin. In 1602 (Keicho 7), Torii Tadamasa was given 100,000 koku after the Iwaki clan was removed from their domain, and the following year he built a castle on the former site of Iino Hachimangu Shrine on Akame Monomigaoka, and constructed a castle town. Initially, samurai residences, intermediate residences, foot soldiers' residences, a temple town, and a town for artisans and merchants were established around the castle, and the merchant town was divided into three towns. It took 12 years to complete the castle, but during this period merchants gathered from all over the country, and it grew into the center of the domain's economy as a distribution point for goods within the domain.
