A village in the Côte d'Or department in central France. It is a branch (daughter) abbey of Clervaux Abbey, founded in 1119 by Bernard of Clervaux, the Grand Master of the Cistercian Order. The abbey had more than 300 monks until the 16th century, but fell into decline and was turned into a paper mill after the French Revolution. It was restored to its original form in the early 20th century, and retains the overall structure of a Cistercian monastery (cloisters, assembly hall, bedrooms, dining room, etc.). The abbey church (1147) is a good example of the Cistercian architectural philosophy, which rejected all extravagance in terms of sculpture and color.
