A carnivorous civet that often stands on its hind legs and assumes a posture similar to that of a prairie dog. It is also called the meerkat. It is found in the arid regions of southwestern Angola, Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. It is 25-35 cm long, 17-25 cm long, and weighs 620-800 g. It has a slender body, small head, black eyes, and a pointed snout, making it look nervous. Its fur is long and soft, a light yellowish gray, white from the face to the chest, and black ears and the tip of the tail.

しばしば後肢で立ち上がりプレリードッグに似た姿勢をとるジャコウネコ科の食肉類。ミーアカット，ミーアキャットともいう。アンゴラ南西部，ナミビア，ボツワナ，南アフリカの乾燥地帯に分布。体長25～35cm，尾長17～25cm，体重620～800g。体つきは細く，頭が小さく，目の周辺が黒く吻（ふん）がとがるので神経質そうに見える。毛は長く柔らかく，明るい黄色がかった灰色で，顔から胸にかけて白く，耳介や尾端は黒い。
