A type of theft. The act of stealing from someone else's pockets in a crowded place such as on the street or in a car, and the person who does this. It is also called "Kinchakukiri" or "Chibo". "Suri" comes from "rubbing" and means to steal by rubbing one's body against something, and "Toubo" means to find something by feeling around, and was used to refer to this type of thief in the Chinese criminal code. The word "Suri" appeared around the end of the Muromachi period, and appears as "suri" in the "Nippo Jisho," but originally it referred to a broader range of thieves.
