A type of alcoholic beverage from ancient India. Its properties are unclear, but it is believed to have been an alcoholic beverage made from grains. Along with soma, it is one of the oldest Indo-Aryan beverages, and both are mentioned in the Rig-Veda. While soma was a sacred drink with a strong religious connotation, sura was apparently an extremely common drink. As in modern India, drinking alcohol was considered to be sinful in ancient times.
