Slag wool is a type of fibrous material made by blowing high-pressure steam into the slag produced during the production of pig iron . It can withstand temperatures of 500 to 600 degrees Celsius, is light and has good heat retention, and is used as a substitute for asbestos. 〘名〙 (slag wool) 銑鉄(せんてつ)を作るときにできる鉱滓(こうさい)(=かす)に高圧蒸気を吹き込んで繊維状にしたもの。摂氏五〇〇~六〇〇度ぐらいの熱に耐え、軽くて保温性に富み石綿の代用とする。
