(Sebastianus) A Christian martyr from the late 3rd century. A saint. A Milanese. He was a praetorian guard for Emperor Diocletian, but is said to have been martyred during the emperor's persecution of Christians. His image has been the subject of paintings and sculptures since ancient times, entitled "The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian." Saint Sebastian. (Sebastianus) 三世紀末のキリスト教の殉教者。聖人。ミラノの人。ディオクレティアヌス帝の近衛兵であったが、帝のキリスト教迫害にあって殉教したといわれる。「聖セバスティアヌスの殉教」の題で古くから絵画、彫刻の題材となっている。聖セバスチャン。
