A duo of science fiction writers representing Russia (Soviet Union). The elder brother, Arkadii Natanovich Strugatskii (1925-1991), is a scholar of Japanese literature, and the younger brother, Boris Natanovich Strugatskii (1933-2012), is an astronomer. The brothers began publishing science fiction novels together in 1957. Their creative endeavors were aimed at "creating models to understand the modern world," and their sharp social stance was at odds with the Soviet regime. For this reason, works such as "It's Time to Climb the Snail" (1968) and "The Ugly Swan" (1972) were banned during the Soviet era, but were fully lifted after 1987. → Related topics Science fiction | Tarkovsky Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
