Straton (English spelling)

He was an ancient Greek philosopher from Lampsacus who was the leader of the Peripatetic school for 18 years. He made fundamental changes to Aristotle's theory in the area of ​​physical science. He said that time is not a number but a quantity in an action, and that natural motion is downward because all things have weight. He also said that there is an emptiness in the world, focusing on the fact that light and heat pass through objects. This idea influenced natural scientists of the time. He also rejected teleology, arguing that the movement of the natural world can be explained by natural causes.

ランプサコス出身の古代ギリシアのペリパトス学派の哲学者で、18年間その学派の指導者であった。自然学方面でアリストテレスの説に根本的変更を加えた。時間は数ではなく行動のなかの量であり、自然運動はものすべて重さをもつため下方に向かうとした。また世界に空虚があるとした。光や熱が物体を通過することに着目してのことである。この考えは当時の自然学者に影響を与えた。さらに自然世界の運行は自然の原因によって説明されるとして目的論を退けた。
