Kabushima

It is a small island located on the coast of the Same district of Hachinohe City in the southeastern part of Aomori Prefecture. It was located about 100 meters out to sea from the coast, but has now been reclaimed and is connected to the mainland. It is about 1 kilometer in circumference, 17 meters high, and made of diabase tuff. The island was named after the wild rapeseed called "kabu" that grows there. It is known as a breeding ground for black-tailed gulls, and is designated as a national natural monument. The gulls arrive in early spring, lay eggs on the island, and fly away south at the end of summer. There are tens of thousands of them. In 2013, it was designated as Sanriku Fukko National Park.

青森県南東部、八戸市(はちのへし)鮫(さめ)地区の海岸にある小島。海岸から約100メートルの海上にあったが、現在は埋め立てられて陸続きになっている。周囲約1キロメートル、高さ17メートルで輝緑凝灰岩からなる。島の名は蕪とよばれる野生のアブラナが群生していることからつけられた。ウミネコの繁殖地として知られ、国の天然記念物に指定されている。早春に飛来し、島で産卵して夏の終わりに南へ飛び去る。その数は数万羽に及ぶ。2013年（平成25）三陸復興国立公園に指定された。
