This refers to the operation of mixing viscous and dense liquids or plastic solids, and the machine that performs this is called a kneading machine. Typical kneading machines (also called mixers or kneading mixers) are (1) machines in which kneading blades move around every part of a suitably shaped container to apply shearing, compression, and other actions to the material to be kneaded, and (2) machines like roll mills that repeatedly feed the material to be kneaded between two rolls that rotate in opposite directions at different speeds to knead it.
