House of Stuart - Stuart

A British dynasty that experienced the Puritan Revolution and the Glorious Revolution. Originally a Scottish dynasty since 1371. The family lineage dates back to the nobility of Brittany in the 11th century, and some of them moved to Scotland in the 12th century and became stewards of the Scottish kings. The family name Stuart comes from this. Later, the sixth mayor, Walter, married the daughter of Robert I of Scotland (reigned 1306-29), and his son Robert succeeded to the throne in 1371 (until 1390), and thus the Stuart dynasty in Scotland began. In 1542, James V (reigned 1513-42) died, and his daughter Mary succeeded to the throne as queen (until 1567), but she participated in the English rebellion and was executed by Elizabeth I of the Tudor dynasty in 1587. Mary's son James succeeded to the Scottish throne (James VI, reigned 1567-1625), and then in 1603, succeeded Elizabeth I to the English throne (James I, reigned 1603-25), thereby holding the thrones of both countries simultaneously. This was because James was of Tudor bloodline, and thus began the Stuart dynasty in England (Great Britain).

James I's son Charles I (reigned 1625-49) inherited the throne as expected, but was executed during the Puritan Revolution, and his son Charles II, who fled to the continent, was restored to the throne in 1660 (until 1685). However, after the death of Charles II, his Catholic brother James II (reigned 1685-88) ascended to the throne, and people who feared Catholicism drove him from the throne (Glorious Revolution, 1688), and the crown passed into the hands of William, Prince of Orange, of Stuart descent, and his wife Mary. Then, in 1714, with the death of Mary's sister Anne (reigned 1702-14), the Stuart dynasty came to an end and the Hanoverian dynasty began. (Book version, 1987)

イギリスの王朝。ピューリタン革命および名誉革命を経験した。元来は1371年以来のスコットランドの王朝。家系は11世紀のブルターニュ地方の貴族までさかのぼり、その一部が12世紀にスコットランドに移住してスコットランド王のスチュワードsteward（宮宰）となった。スチュアートStuartという家名はこれに由来している。その後第6代目の宮宰ウォルターWalterが、スコットランド王ロバート1世（在位1306～29）の娘と結婚したため、その子ロバートが1371年に王位を継承し（～1390）、ここにスコットランドにおけるスチュアート朝が始まった。1542年ジェームズ5世（在位1513～42）の死によって、その娘メアリーが女王として王位を継いだ（～67）が、彼女はイングランドの反乱に加担して、1587年チューダー朝のイングランド女王エリザベス1世によって処刑された。メアリーの子ジェームズはスコットランド王位を継承した（ジェームズ6世。在位1567～1625）のち、1603年、エリザベス1世の後を襲ってイングランド王位も継承（ジェームズ1世。在位1603～25）、両国の王位を兼ねるに至る。これはジェームズがチューダー家の血統を引いていたためであり、ここにイングランド（イギリス）におけるスチュアート朝が始まった。

　ジェームズ1世の子チャールズ1世（在位1625～49）は、順当に王位を継承したものの、ピューリタン革命のさなかに処刑され、大陸に逃れたその子チャールズ2世が1660年王位に復した（～1685）。しかしチャールズ2世没後、カトリックであった王弟ジェームズ2世（在位1685～88）が即位したため、カトリック化を恐れる人々が彼を王位から追い（名誉革命。1688）、王冠はスチュアート家の血を引くオレンジ公ウィリアムとその妻メアリーの手に渡った。そして1714年、メアリーの妹アン（在位1702～14）の死去により、スチュアート朝は断絶し、ハノーバー朝が開始された。（書籍版　1987年）
