Fuchu [town] - Fuchu
A former town in Fushiki-gun, central Toyama Prefecture. A rice-growing region occupying the left bank of the Jinzu River in the Toyama Plain. Hayahoshi, the center of the area through which the Takayama Main Line runs, developed into a factory town in 1927 when a large fertilizer factory was built, mainly producing urea and ammonium sulfate. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Toyama City along with Osawano-cho and Oyama-cho in Kamishinkawa-gun, Yao-cho in Fushiki-gun, Yamada-mura, and Hosoiri-mura. 68.04 km2 . Population: 35,259 (2003).
