A former town in Fushiki-gun, central Toyama Prefecture. A rice-growing region occupying the left bank of the Jinzu River in the Toyama Plain. Hayahoshi, the center of the area through which the Takayama Main Line runs, developed into a factory town in 1927 when a large fertilizer factory was built, mainly producing urea and ammonium sulfate. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Toyama City along with Osawano-cho and Oyama-cho in Kamishinkawa-gun, Yao-cho in Fushiki-gun, Yamada-mura, and Hosoiri-mura. 68.04 km2 . 富山県中部,婦負(ねい)郡の旧町。富山平野の神通川左岸一帯を占める米作地帯。高山本線が通じる中心の速星(はやほし)は1927年尿素,硫安を主とする肥料の大工場ができてから工場町として発展。2005年4月上新川郡大沢野町,大山町,婦負郡八尾町,山田村,細入村と富山市へ編入。68.04km2。3万5259人(2003)。
