Stanton, an abolitionist lawyer. In 1848, she petitioned the New York State Assembly to recognize wives' property rights, and on July 19-20, 1848, together with women's liberationists such as Lucretia Mott, she held the first American rally to demand women's rights in Seneca Falls, New York, and drafted the "Declaration of Sentiments." In 1868, together with Susan B. Anthony, she founded The Revolution, a newspaper that advocated for women's rights. The following year, in 1869, she founded the National Woman Suffrage Association with Anthony and became its president. In 1890, the organization merged with the American Woman Suffrage Association to form the National Woman Suffrage Association, of which she served as president until 1892. Her books include History of Woman Suffrage (6 volumes, 1881-1922), co-authored with Anthony and Matilda J. Gage.

American lawyer and politician. Secretary of War during the Civil War. He became a lawyer in 1836, and in December 1860, he became Attorney General under President J. Buchanan.
