Stand oil - stand oil (English spelling)

Stand oil - stand oil (English spelling)

It is made by heating drying oils such as linseed oil and tung oil to nearly 300°C in an air-tight environment and polymerizing them. It is used as a paint raw material. It dries less quickly than boiled oil (heated while blowing air into it and adding a drying agent), but the dried film is more water-resistant. It dries quickly, has good permeability, and provides good coating hardness. Some boiled oils for undercoating contain a lot of stand tung oil, which is relatively low in oil compared to pigments.

By heating in the absence of air, some of the non-conjugated double bonds in linseed oil (where multiple double bonds are separated by a single methylene group) become conjugated double bonds (where multiple double bonds are adjacent to each other). Molecules containing new or existing conjugated double bonds react with other molecules containing double bonds by heating, resulting in cyclopolymerization.
