During the Kamakura period, the Adachi and Ashikaga clans were the shugo, and during the Muromachi period, Niki, Isshiki, Hosokawa, and Ashikaga clans were the shugo. During the Sengoku period, the Imagawa, Takeda, Tokugawa, and Oda clans fought each other, and the Tokugawa clan prevailed. During the Edo period, the territories of the Tenryo and Daimyo were mixed together, and after the abolition of the feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures, it became Nukata Prefecture, and in 1872 it became southern Aichi Prefecture.
