Walton, W.

[20th century]
The 20th century saw a strong movement in the field of orchestral music, with CVStanford (1852-1924) and E. Elgar, followed by F. Delius (1862-1934), Holst, and Vaughan Williams. Tippett (1905- ), but the representative of modern music is Britten, who demonstrated his outstanding talent in the fields of orchestral and choral music, as well as in operas such as "Peter Grimes" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

The origins of English folk music can be traced back to the activities of minstrels in the Middle Ages.
