A private Christian university in Seoul, Korea. It began as the university department of Yeonshin School, founded by American missionary Underwood in 1915. In 1918 it moved to Shinchon-dong, Seoul, and in 1923 it was renamed Yeonhui College. In 1941 it was made into the Industrial Management College, but in 1946 it was upgraded to a comprehensive university with five colleges of arts and sciences, commerce and economics, science and engineering, theology, and political science and law, as well as a graduate school, and in 1957 it merged with Severance Medical College to form its current name. As of 1996, in addition to the above, there are other colleges and graduate schools, including medicine, nursing, dentistry, music, environment, and education, and it also has an Institute of Japanese Studies and an Institute of Industrial Management, and also has a branch campus in Wonju, Gangwon-do. 韓国,ソウルにあるキリスト教系私立総合大学。1915年アメリカ人宣教師アンダーウッドが設立した儆新学校大学部が始まり。18年ソウルの新村洞に移り23年延禧専門学校と改称,41年工業経営専門学校とさせられたが,46年文科・商経・理工・神学・政法の5単科大学と大学院を置く総合大学に昇格,57年セブランス医科大学を併合して現名となった。96年現在,前記の系統のほか医科・看護・歯科・音楽・環境・教育などの単科大学,大学院があり,国学研究所・産業経営研究所などを付設し,江原道の原州にも分校をもつ。
