Maimai - Maimai

Japanese:
Maimai - Maimai
Among the performing arts performed in the Middle Ages and early modern times, Kusemai and Kowakamai are considered to be the best. Sometimes the word Mai-yo is used to refer to people involved in this performing art. The word Mai-yo appears frequently in records from the Muromachi period, and it has been confirmed that people called Mai-yo existed in various provinces, such as Omi, Kawachi, Mino, Echizen, Wakasa, and Sagami. For example, in Sagami, Mai-yo Tenjuro Tayu was protected by the Later Hojo clan, and in addition to dancing, he was also involved in entertaining foreign guests, managing and controlling people, performers, and lower-ranking religious figures who came from various provinces, and even transporting them on horseback.
