Depending on the content and purpose of the regulations, they can be classified as follows: (1) basic standards - those that prescribe basic and general matters, (2) product standards - those that prescribe requirements for the characteristics, performance, etc. of products (some standards are partial, such as dimensional standards and performance standards), (3) service standards - those that prescribe requirements for services provided by the so-called service industry, (4) terminology standards - those that prescribe technical terms and their definitions, (5) product standards - those that aim to reduce variety, i.e., simplification, (6) compatibility standards - those that aim to ensure the compatibility of parts, etc., (7) compatibility standards - those that aim to ensure the compatibility of systems, equipment, etc., (8) safety standards - those that aim to ensure safety, (9) test and inspection standards - those that aim to assure quality, and (10) manufacturing standards - those that aim to ensure quality, reduce manufacturing costs, and improve efficiency. Standards can also be classified according to the body that sets them: (1) international standards - established by international agreements or treaties, by governmental or non-governmental international organizations (whose membership is open to the public); (2) national standards - established by national standards organizations that are nationally recognized; (3) association standards - established by nationally recognized academic societies, associations, or industry groups; and (4) in-house standards - established by companies. *Some of the terms mentioned in "safety standards" are explained below.
