Chemoautotrophic bacteria

[Nutrition Form]
Bacteria such as sulfur bacteria, nitrifying bacteria, and iron bacteria obtain energy by oxidizing inorganic substances such as sulfur, nitrogen, and iron, and synthesize all organic matter within their cells by reducing carbon dioxide. These bacteria are called chemoautotrophs (chemo-organotrophs, autotrophs). In contrast, bacteria that use organic matter as a nutrient source are called chemoheterotrophs (chemo-organotrophs, heterotrophs).
