Suzukakenoki (common) plane
A deciduous tall tree of the Platanaceae family, it is widely planted as a roadside tree or garden tree. It can reach a height of 30 m, and the trunk has an irregular pattern of broad strips of bark that have peeled off. The leaves are alternate, with the winter buds wrapped around the base of the 3-8 cm long petiole and sheath-like early-falling stipules. The leaf blade is 10-20 cm wide, palmately divided into 5-7 deep lobes, and has a few teeth on the edges of the lobes. In May, male and female flowers form separate globular heads, and 3-6 flowers hang in clusters on long stalks.
