Sakigahana Ruins - Sakigahana Ruins
A Jomon archaeological site in a sea cave in Komakui, Moriyama, Mihonoseki Town, Yatsuka District, Shimane Prefecture. It is also called Sarugahana Site. It is located on a small cape west of Nakae Seto, which connects Lake Nakaumi on the southern side of the Shimane Peninsula with the Sea of ​​Japan. The largest and northernmost (Cave No. 1) is 60m deep, 5m wide, and 4-5m high, and there are four smaller caves to the south, all of which have yielded Jomon period artifacts except for the southernmost cave, which contains seawater. The main artifact-bearing layer is located at the entrance to the northernmost cave and in front of it, and consists of five or more layers. Most of the artifacts are from the Late Jomon period, but artifacts from the Early and Middle Jomon periods have also been excavated.
