A samurai family of the early modern period. They lived in Suganuma, Tsukude Village, in the mountains of eastern Mikawa in the middle of the Muromachi period, and called themselves the Suganuma clan. Around Tenbun, they moved south to the plains of the Toyokawa River basin, and became powerful local lords in eastern Mikawa. During this time, they repeatedly submitted to and defected from the Matsudaira clan (Tokugawa clan) and the Imagawa clan, and after Tokugawa Ieyasu unified Mikawa, they became his loyal subordinates. In particular, Sadamitsu of the Noda Suganuma clan was highly trusted, and was given 10,000 koku in Abo, Kozuke Province, when he entered the Kanto region. During the time of his grandson Sadaaki, who had no heir, the 40,000 koku of Tanba Kameyama Castle was stripped away, and his two younger brothers were given 10,000 koku in Mikawa Province, and became hatamoto (samurai vassals) through alternating meetings.
