A lake located at the northern foot of Mt. Shirane (Nikko Shirane) in the eastern part of Katashina Village in northeastern Gunma Prefecture. It is also called "Sugenuma." It has an area of 0.77 km2 , a circumference of 6.5 km, a maximum depth of 75 m, and an elevation of 1,731 m. It is divided into three parts from the east: Shimizu-numa, Benten-numa, and Kitamatanuma, and has a complex, intricate shape. The water temperature is low even in summer due to the inflow of meltwater from snow, making it an oligotrophic lake. Trout farming is carried out in some parts. It belongs to Nikko National Park, and a campsite is set up on the lakeside in summer. The Kinsei Road runs along the lakeshore.
