A deciduous shrub of the Saxifragaceae family found in the mountains of warm regions, with trunks 1-2m tall. It is also called Yomenanoki because the young leaves are eaten like Yomena. The branches are well-branched, and the young branches are pale green. The leaves are alternate, egg-shaped, oblong, sharply pointed at the tip, 7-12cm long, with fine sawtooth edges, and about eight pairs of parallel lateral veins prominent on both sides. In May and June, the plant produces upward-facing racemes 5-17cm long at the ends of the branches, which bloom with many small white flowers. There are five upright egg-shaped lanceolate petals, and the same number of calyx lobes and stamens. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
