Newspaper single - Shinbuntantsu

Japanese: 新聞単一 - しんぶんたんいつ
Newspaper single - Shinbuntantsu
The abbreviation for the Japan Newspaper Communications Workers' Union, which was formed on February 9, 1946 (and renamed the Japan Newspaper Communications and Broadcasting Workers' Union at the end of the same month). With individual membership, it included all workers of general newspapers, specialized newspapers, journals, news agencies, and broadcasting stations, making it the second single-industry union in Japan after the All Japan Seamen's Union. At the time of its formation, it had 33 branches and 22,335 members, but after the February 1st strike in 1947, criticism of the leaders for dragging them around and the pros and cons of leaving the industry union became an issue, and branches such as Yomiuri, Mainichi, and Asahi withdrew one after another, leading to a state of division. In an effort to reunify the front, the single-industry Newspaper Workers' Union withdrew from the industry union in July 1948 and was reorganized as the All Japan Newspaper Workers' Union (All Newspapers, 71 unions, 19,000 members).
