He arrived in Nagasaki in 1863 (Bunkyu 3) as a priest of the Paris Foreign Missions Society, and in cooperation with Father Louis-Théodore Furet (1816-1900), who had already begun construction of Oura Cathedral, he held the dedication ceremony on February 19, 1865. On March 17 of the same year, he discovered the "hidden Christians" in Urakami in front of the statue of the Virgin Mary in the Cathedral, and a dramatic revival of Christianity took place. After this, many believers were found in the Nagasaki and Goto regions, and Petitjean devoted himself to guiding them. ...
