A village in Minamishitara County, eastern Aichi Prefecture. Population 3,313 (1995). A mountain village located on the Mino-Mikawa Plateau, the southeast occupies the upper reaches of the Tomoe River, a tributary of the Toyo River, and the northwest occupies the upper reaches of the Tomoe River, a tributary of the Yahagi River. In addition to forestry, highland vegetables, flowers, tea, tobacco, etc. are cultivated, and dairy farming is also thriving, especially in the Kurose area. Since the late 1960s, spinning and automobile parts factories have been established here, but the population has been declining since 1955. Naganoyama Marsh is located in the center, and Japan's smallest dragonfly lives there. It has been designated as part of the Aichi Plateau Quasi-National Park. 愛知県東部,南設楽(みなみしたら)郡の村。人口3313(1995)。美濃三河高原に位置する山村で,南東部は豊川支流の巴川,北西部は矢作(やはぎ)川支流の巴川の上流域を占める。林業のほか,高冷地野菜,花卉,茶,タバコなどが栽培され,黒瀬地区を中心に酪農も盛んである。1960年代後半から紡績,自動車部品などの工場が進出しているが,人口は1955年以降減少傾向にある。中央部に長ノ山湿原があり,日本最小のハッチョウトンボが生息し,愛知高原国定公園に指定されている。
