It is an outdoor game for children. The players split into two groups and gather around pillars or trees that they set as their bases. They compete to take the enemy's base, but if they touch the body of an enemy, they can be taken prisoner. The winner is to make the most prisoners and leave the enemy base thin and occupy it, or to capture all the enemies, but if a captured person is in the enemy base and touches their body, they can be released and go home. There is also a game in which the players split into two groups and prepare a circle with fewer people than the total number of people, and compete to take the base with a shout, and the group with the most children who fail to run into the circle loses. Another game called "jindori" is also called "kunidori," and involves dividing up the ground into sections and expanding one's territory by playing marbles. Jindori became popular in the latter half of the Meiji period, after the Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese wars.
