Song of the Sutra - Utasekkyo

Japanese: 歌説経 - うたせっきょう

〘Noun〙 (also "Utazekkyo") From the Kanbun to Genroku eras ( 1661-1704 ) in the Edo period, this is a type of storytelling that explains Buddhist causality in a catchy manner accompanied by shamisen. It is different from the sermons that began as theater performances in collaboration with marionettes, and is a relatively short piece that was told on its own without being linked to puppets. *Hyōbanki・Yakusha Hyōban Kōtei (1674) Ebisu-ya Zasōron "Sanza and Goro will sing, but there is nothing like that."
