Shingo [town] - Shingo

Japanese: 神郷[町] - しんごう

A former town in Atetsu District, northwest Okayama Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous, part of the Chugoku Mountains, and borders Tottori and Hiroshima prefectures. The Geibi Line and Hakubi Line run through the town. In the past, it was a place where high-quality iron sand was collected, and the Kama area was the center of tatara ironworks. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, but cattle breeding is also thriving. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Niimi City along with Osa Town, Tetta Town, and Tetsunishi Town in Atetsu District. ^{136.37 km2} . 2,619 people (2003).

岡山県北西部，阿哲郡の旧町。大半は中国山地に属する山地で，鳥取，広島両県に接する。芸備線と伯備線が通じる。古く良質砂鉄の採取地で釜地区はたたら製鉄の中心であった。農林業を主とし，牛の飼育も盛ん。2005年３月阿哲郡大佐町，哲多町，哲西町と新見市へ編入。136.37km²。2619人（2003）。
