…In contrast to the so-called external family, where parents and two children live in a 3DK apartment, belong to the middle class, and are conscious of their home as being average, there is an image of "home" that each member buries deep in their thoughts and does not express in words. This is a dimension related to what Freud called family romance, and what schizophrenic family research calls family myths and legends. When peaceful times pass, the discrepancy between reality and image goes unnoticed, but the gap between the two becomes apparent in response to the breakdown of integration as a family. …
