胃のあたりの発作的な激痛の総称。胃そのものの痙攣は実際にはほとんど存在せず,普通は胆石症,急性胃炎,胃・十二指腸潰瘍(かいよう),急性腸炎,ヒステリー,薬物中毒,膵炎等による上腹部の発作的疼痛(とうつう)を意味する。過食後やアルコール過飲後に起こることが多い。治療は発作時には鎮痙(ちんけい)剤で痛みを止めるとともに,真の疾患を診断し,それに対して行う。
