1111-74 Prince of Vladimir and Suzdal, Russia. Reigned 1157-74. He succeeded his father Yuri Dolgorukiy as prince. He first moved the capital of the principality from the ancient center of Rostov, where the nobility had a strong influence, to Vladimir, which had been founded in the time of his grandfather Vladimir Monomakh (1157), and built the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary to enhance its status as the capital. He himself lived in the village of Bogolyubovo near the city, so he was called Bogolyubski. He captured Kiev in 69, which marked the final downfall of the city, but he did not live there as prince, instead appointing his younger brother as governor.
