Pyroxferroite (English spelling)

Japanese: パイロクスフェロアイト（英語表記）pyroxferroite

A type of pyroxene first discovered in rocks from the lunar mare. Its chemical composition is close to (Fe _0.83 Ca _0.13 Mg _0.02 Mn _0.02 )SiO ₃ and it shows triclinic P symmetry. It is yellow in color and has a calculated specific gravity of 3.8. It has a crystal structure in which the Mn in pyroxmangite MnSiO ₃ , a type of pyroxene common on Earth, is replaced with Fe. It occurs as a late crystallized mineral in the coarse-grained rocks of the lunar mare, along with silica minerals, augite, plagioclase, and ilmenite. It can be artificially synthesized under high pressures of several kb (= 10 ⁸ Pa) or more.

月の海の岩石に最初に発見された準輝石の一種。化学組成は(Fe_0.83Ca_0.13Mg_0.02Mn_0.02)SiO₃に近く，三斜晶系Pの対称を示す。色は黄色，比重は3.8(計算値)。地球に普通な準輝石の一種，パイロクスマンジャイトMnSiO₃のMnをFeで置換した結晶構造をもつ。月の海の粗粒の岩石の末期晶出鉱物として，シリカ鉱物，オージャイト，斜長石，チタン鉄鉱などとともに産する。人工では数kb(＝10⁸Pa)以上の高圧下で合成することができる。
