A former town in Tsukui District, northern Kanagawa Prefecture. Located where the Sagami River flows into Sagamihara, the central settlement of Kawajiri developed as a market town and the terminus of shipping. In recent years, tourism and agriculture have become popular. In 1965, Shiroyama Dam was completed, and Lake Tsukui, an artificial lake that straddles the neighboring city of Sagamihara to the west, has become a popular tourist destination. In March 2007, it was incorporated into Fujino Town, Tsukui District, and Sagamihara City. 19.90 km2 .
