When the shogunate restricted the amount of trade to prevent the outflow of gold and silver, in 1695 , Fushimiya Shirobei was allowed to trade in copper, the equivalent of 1,000 kanme of silver, in addition to the restrictions. 〘名〙① 品物と品物を交換すること。物々交換。※俳諧・鷹筑波(1638)三「秋と冬としろものかへや月と雪〈静寿〉」② 江戸時代、長崎で行なわれた外国貿易の一方法。幕府が金銀の流出を防ぐため貿易額の制限を行なったとき、元祿八年(一六九五)伏見屋四郎兵衛が、制限外に銀千貫目に当たる銅で交易をすることを許されて行なった貿易。以後、若干の変化はあったが、宝永五年(一七〇八)廃止まで続いた。※浮世草子・好色敗毒散(1703)一「長崎といふ所は、〈略〉此の外に五千貫目の代物替(シロモノガヘ)」
