It is also called Ziryene. It belongs to the Finnic branch of the Finno-Ugric language family of the Uralic languages, and together with Bochak (Udmurt), it forms part of the Permian group. In Russia, Ziryane is called Komi, and is spoken as the native language of over 400,000 people living in the Komi Republic in northwestern Russia, in the Vychegda River basin and the Mezen Valley. Komi can be further classified as Komi-Zyryan, with Komi-Permjak being the predominant language spoken in the Komi-Permyak Autonomous Okrug in the south.
