Waltham

Japanese: ウォルサム(英語表記)Waltham
Waltham
A city in eastern Massachusetts, USA. It is located on the Charles River, about 15 km west of Boston. It began as an industrial city in 1636, when a flour mill was built using a 2m waterfall in the center of the city. A paper mill was then built there in 1788, and in 1813, the first cotton spinning mill in the United States was completed, processing cotton into textiles, and industrialization progressed. The Waltham Watch Company (founded in 1854), which was a representative watch manufacturer for many years, contributed greatly to the city's development. The watch industry was later replaced by electronic equipment and precision machinery, and continues to this day. Population: 57,878 (1990).
