The autobiography of the 6th Gidayu Takemoto Somedayu (1797-1869). The original title is Kanaya Shinbei Ichidaiki, based on his stage name and real name. It has 29 volumes. Somedayu was one of the great masters of the late Edo period, who served as a monshita (a performer) in Bunraku theater from 1865-69 (Keio 1-Meiji 2). This book is an interesting collection of his life stories, from his upbringing to his time as Jitsudayu and Kajidayu 4th, written in a Joruri style and with hand-drawn colored illustrations. It is written in a vivid style and contains stories of his training, his teacher Echizen Daijo, Joruri performers of the same era, inko, traveling performances, the Edo Joruri world, and social customs, making it an indispensable historical resource for the study of Joruri history.

義太夫の6世竹本染太夫(1797‐1869)の自伝。原題は彼の屋号･本名に基づく《金屋新兵衛一代記》。29巻。染太夫は1865‐69年(慶応1‐明治2)，文楽芝居の紋下を勤めた幕末期名人のひとりで，生い立ちから実太夫･4世梶太夫時代の事跡を読物風に面白くまとめたもの。文体も浄瑠璃風で，自筆の彩色挿絵入り。修業の話，師匠越前大掾や同時代の浄瑠璃人，因講，旅興行，江戸の浄瑠璃界，社会風俗など，生き生きとした筆致で述べられ，浄瑠璃史研究上，欠かせぬ史料となっている。
