Basal metabolic ratio

Japanese: basal metabolic ratio(英語表記)basalmetabolicratio
Basal metabolic ratio

The basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the ratio of the amount of energy consumed during a day at rest, without food, and at a critical temperature, to exclude functional consumption due to muscle work, etc. The basal metabolic rate for adults is said to be 1,200 to 1,400 kcal per day for Japanese and 1,500 to 2,000 kcal per day for Westerners. The ratio of the actual value to the standard value is called the basal metabolic rate (BMR), and is used as a reference for clinical diagnosis.
[Metabolic Regulation]
All living organisms carry out the various metabolic processes mentioned above using food and energy taken in from the outside world, but even if the contents of the food change, or even if the temperature and other environmental conditions of the outside world change, the concentrations of various substances in the body, such as blood sugar levels, urine composition, and salt concentration in sweat, always remain roughly constant.
