A village in Ono District, on the northwestern edge of Gifu Prefecture. It borders Toyama and Ishikawa Prefectures and occupies the upper reaches of the Shogawa River, which flows from north to south. Most of the area is forested and there is little flat land. On the border with Ishikawa Prefecture, there is Mt. Hakusan, famous as a sacred mountain, which is also a trailhead. National Route 156 runs north to south along the Shogawa River, and National Route 360 runs east to west. In 2002, the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway was opened, and the transportation network has been dramatically improved. Power development has also been carried out in various places, and many dams have been built on the Shogawa River and its tributaries, including the Hatoya Dam near the center of the village, the Oshirakawa Dam at the foot of Mt. Hakusan, and the Miboro Dam in the south, which are large in scale. There are also many tourist attractions, with the area around Mt. Hakusan in the west belonging to Hakusan National Park, Hirase Onsen in the south, and the Gassho-style village of Ogimachi, which has been designated a World Heritage Site along with the Gokayama area of Nanto City in neighboring Toyama Prefecture, is extremely famous. 356.64 ^{km 2} . 1,733 people (2010).

岐阜県北西端，大野郡の村。富山・石川各県に接し，南北に流れる庄川の上流域を占める。大半が山林で平坦地は少なく，石川県との境には霊山として名高い白山があり，登山口にもなっている。庄川沿いを南北に国道156号が，東西には国道360号が通じ，2002年には東海北陸自動車道も開通して，交通網の整備が劇的に進んだ。電源開発も各地で行われ，庄川とその支流には多くのダムが立地し，村の中心に近い鳩谷ダムや白山麓の大白川ダム，南部の御母衣(みぼろ)ダムなどは規模が大きい。観光資源も豊富で，西部の白山周辺は白山国立公園に属し，南部には平瀬温泉が湧くほか，荻町の合掌造集落は隣の富山県南砺市五箇山地区とともに世界遺産にも指定され，あまりにも有名。356.64km²。1733人（2010）。
